BOLD BEAN FASHION WEEK

FPIR Presents

Bold Bean Fashion Week

Interviews by Ari Laren | Photos by Luis S. Rivera

Tomorrow is the big day! The preparations for the fashion show at MOCA OCT.7th at 7pm are coming along with help from tons of pros and great friends! The show will feature over twenty models!!!! It's going to be huge!! it's only fitting that we share christopher Paul's Bold Bean Fashion Week Q&A today...because Christopher has a huge heart!! Christopher Paul holds it down at Bold Bean with a constant smile and kind words. If you want a pick me up this bae will serve you up an espresso with a dash of sweetness!

Chai HEART Bold Bean!!

Meet Christopher Paul!

Christopher has been a Barista at Bold Bean for two years; loves Guatemalan Asodiett and has strong feelings about VELVET SHORTS! He just might be the sweetest pea in the pod!

What is your favorite BB beverage for fall?

We have an amazing Single Origin Espresso on right now, the Guatemalan Asodiett, it’s got a great honey sweetness and a smooth body. Perfect for Fall or any season!

What are your origins as a Barista?

I’ve worked in coffee for years on more of [the] retail side. [I] transitioned to a barista role about two years ago,  I love it, it’s completely changed my relationship with coffee.

What is one thing you will never wear again?

Velvet shorts, I think that’s the sweatiest I’ve ever been… :X Ya’ll velvet freaks can keep those, so soft but so sweaty.

What’s one thing you will never stop wearing?

Denim on Denim. I’m a massive fan of the ever versatile Canadian Tux. Wedding? Casual Party? Baby Shower? None changing ceremony? The canadian tux is your best friend.

How does your life influence your style?

Working with coffee has made me more of a practical dresser, it has to be comfortable and able to resist those coffee stains but I also still want to present myself decently. Fashion is great because as quiet/ shy guy it can sometimes act as the voice I have a hard time finding.

The Celebration steams ahead as we inch closer to Next Wednesdays' Fashion Show at MOCA! Continuing on this visual journey Chloe may not be a Barista at Bold Bean but she represents a very important part of the coffee shop, CUSTOMERS!! Lookin' all fierce Chloe and a friend made their way to Bold Bean as the shoot progressed unbeknownst to them . I loved their style so much I asked Luis to snap a few pics. They agreed and WOW! what a magical result, this image screams fall! Netflix, chill and oogle over Chloe! Happy Sunday!

Q & A WITH CHLOE

What is your favorite BB beverage for fall?

It's typical, but there's nothing like a dirty chai, it tastes like Christmas. Luckily Bold Bean has the best one around, I started drinking it iced when I got sick of the heat and missed the comfort of the holidays.

What is one thing you will never wear again?

A padded bra.

What’s one thing you will never stop wearing?

A black skater skirt, I'm wearing one right now. It's simple so you can look as fancy or as casual as you want. It twirls when you spin and it's comfy enough to sleep in if you have to.

How does your life influence your style?

I'm a little scattered, so my style is constantly changing. But I try and dress according to the mood I want to be in. If I'm feeling down, I'll wear the brightest, bounciest dress

Without Further Ado...Meet Erin Lee!

We HEART Erin Lee!

A huge part of an establishment's signature are the people who dedicate their time and and energy to it. Erin Lee has been with Bold Bean from the beginning adding her edgy confidence to the mix. If Bold Bean were a wolf pack the others would lovingly call her their benevolent leader.

She guides with a gentle paw and cares deeply about her friends at work and the customers who choose Bold Bean as their coffee home. They say you can't choose family but sometimes there are people that really make you feel at home. Erin Lee is a human happy machine and it's clear that she is a huge part of the positive mojo that bounces off the walls in Bold Bean.

 BAE-RISTA ALERT!!!!!

Oh yea and XXXtra bae points check out her weekly radio show on WJCT 89.9  'Indie Endeavor' every Tuesday at 11pm!

'On Indie Endeavor, local music expert Erin Lee delivers the best new music for independent thinkers. It's the place to be for the best in alternative/sub pop/alt-rock and indie music.

You can listen to select past episodes on [the] WJCT On Demand page.' -WJCT

We asked the Bold Bean Baristas to answer a few questions about themselves. Out of five questions they could choose to answer one or all of them in as little or much detail as they wished.  Read on to lean a little more about Erin Lee

Q & A

What's one thing you will never wear again?

SKORTS

What's one thing you will never stop wearing?

JORTS

How does your life influence your style?

I would say that I favor practical individuality. I love the idea of utility mixed with subtle hints of extraordinary. I refuse to compromise comfort and I appreciate the creativity it takes to add edge to such a simple idea. Overall I love the notion that fashion is not about what you wear but how you wear it. It's about confidently being able to display the true you. With that said, I'd say Riverside has a pretty good idea of who we all are.

If you don't know, now you know! Bold Bean sits in the center of a quaint little annex of Historic Five Points. Stockton Street at the intersection of Post St. hosts a variety of restaurants and shops to delight the senses.

Bold Bean may not have been the first shop to open on the Stockton St. strip but it is arguably the hippest. The shop draws some of the most intersting Jacksonvillians. Bold Bean literally infused a dose of energy and life into the block and the whole Five Points area. Since day one Bold Bean has been a go-to spot when gearing up for the day with a warm cup of house-roasted coffee or a place to relax with friends. It is a hub of our community, a meeting place, a music hall, watering hole, art gallery and safe space for all. If you’ve never been to Bold Bean, stop what you’re doing! Go there and TREAT YO’SELF to a cup of their addictive brew!

FASHION?? IN JAX??.... A CHANGE IS COMING!!!

Fitz Pullins

Jacksonville is not particularly known as a fashionable city. We tend to fly under the radar. However, we are saturated and heavily involved in other mediums. For instance, Art. Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.   Now, let's think about this for a minute........ keywords being visual form, beauty , and emotional power.   I don't know about you, but I strongly feel that way towards fashion. Its a form of art and evokes emotion, whether its a self esteem boost ( sidenote: feeling myself by Nicki & Baby B.. instant ego stroke. ) or someone checking you out.  Now that we have established that fashion is indeed, a form of art. Jacksonville, get ready for some REAL fashion. We are about to make some progressive history. A CHANGE IS COMING!! Starting out with my talented BFF Meester (inside joke peeps) BOBBYK . He has teamed up with Perversion Magazine. To give Jacksonville a taste of his many talents. Be sure to come out on September 4th @730pm to Perversion + Bobby K Kontrast Fashion Show  located at 1037 Park St. 32205. This is something you should not miss. Following the show, is a Soul-Themed Dance party featuring local celeb Dj's Wes Reed + Matt Caudler . Click on the link to purchase your    Presale tickets: $10 at https://squareup.com/market/perversion-llc/perversion-bobby-k-fashion-show-ticket   . Next, Yours truly will be curating a Fashion show at MOCA on October 7th @730. The show will take place during Art Walk in the atrium. This show will be featuring looks inspired by this year's Contemporaries NYE333 Theme. As an adding bonus, I will be designing a dress for the grand finale. To find out more details. Please sign up for email updates at www.fitzpullins.com . Also, be on the look out for updates on upcoming event on our page . Maybe even become a member of the contemporaries ; )

YOU'RE UP.... Let's see what your working with!

YOU'RE UP.... Let's see what your working with!

Now that I have covered all the info. You might be asking yourself... what in the hell do I wear to something like this. In a nutshell: Be creative. Step outside of your comfort zone. Have fun with it. This may not be enough info for all of the newcomers, so I provide a few tips:

  • Please keep it sophisticated, not slutty. We need to work on taste here folks. It's one thing to wear a tasteful mini, but another to some everything your working with. Please leave something to the imagination... PLEASE!! Try stepping outside of your comfort zone. Take this look for example, mixing patterns. ( This may be a lil too much for some, but try with just a top or skrit.) Although, they are different patterns. They complement each other.
Print on Prints On Prints

Print on Prints On Prints

  • Basic blacks. Been there..done that..got the t-shrit. Instead of wearing your simple favorite black on black look. Whether its that same cocktail dress or favorite tee w/jeans. Up the ante with some texture and movement. Like this leather pleated skirt. Put this on, and your milkshake will definitely bring all the boys/girls to the yard.
Make sure you wear it and it does not wear you.

Make sure you wear it and it does not wear you.

  • If all else fails, stick to a clean tailored look. If you are not ready to take the plunge, just keep it simple with some color blocking using this seasons Pantone colors. Please, whatever you do, make sure its fits.Top it off with a statement piece.  Ask a friend who's closet you wish you had, for help. This also applies to the guys as well.
IMG_0622.JPG
  • Final tip: Your best accessory is your friend or group your going with. It's always more fun and less stressful with your partner in crime. Friends are the BEST accessory to always have. They will give their honest opinion. Plus, they won't let you go out looking like anything. Stay calm and have confidence. Step out of your comfort zone, but always remember, you're YOU. XoFitz<3

Belts are the new "it" Accessory

Dana Rogo

When we think about belts, the first thing that pops into our mind is "a belt is used to hold up our pants". The belt ensures that your pants won't fall down and accents your outfit. This comment holds true for the most part however, as we transition into Fall, belts are the new "it" accessory. Women may not need belts in the way that men do but that doesn't mean we should dismiss the accessory. In fact, a belt helps complete the outfit.

A belt can add a polished look when your blouse is tucked into your jeans. It can give you a waist and a beautiful figure when paired with a dress. A belt can also help dress up a cocktail dress or dress down a flowy dress depending on how you style it. Because of the high demand of this accessory, you can grab some great finds at your favorite stores (including Fitz Pullins Inventory Room!).

Some new styles for the Fall are rose gold chain belts, Gucci and Hermes leather belts with metal hardware, and slim belts with sleek buckles. When we shop, we tend to ask ourselves, "What else can I wear with this?" Luckily, these belts are transition pieces and can add a little extra any way you chose to style it.

NYFW: Men's

Deant'e-Jamal Felton

Written by D. Jamal Felton (The Bandwagon Effect Content Contributor)

For those of you who weren't aware, this week we welcomed the long awaited first annual New York Mens Fashion Week. With participation from the likes of Thom Browne, Michael Bastian, Rag & Bone, and more, the initial NYFWM was inspiring and we can't wait for next year's edition.

Below is a highlight video from the week:

I think it's safe to say that this Men's Fashion Week will set the bar pretty high for future weeks!

New fall colors for men and women

Fitz Pullins

If you want to be in style this fall, you might want to listen to Pantone’s annual color prediction. There are some obvious picks as well as a few shockers.  So get ready to pull out your crayon box and start getting inspired. The most loved and hated color by so many returns to the scene, the classic olive green-esque Cyprus, no surprise. However gasps from the audience when we announce yes, Yellow is here in the fall.  It is no longer just a limited color for spring.  Pull out the old Easter dress and think about it for Thanksgiving dinner.  Gentlemen here is your chance to think about some yellow socks for a pop of color, you know I love that.

To stay on top of these predictions keep your eye on this blog and I will keep you poppin’ that color. Below you will find the new, fresh predictions for the fall Men and Women. You might notice, there is only one color difference in the men and women’s color predictions?
