“New York Fashion Week” and “casual luxury” probably had never been printed on the same pages in Numero Homme, but that was before this year. Numero Homme is the Bible of men in the fashion industry, featuring the avant-garde and emerging trends in men’s fashion. Pairing haute couture with crumpled blazers, denim, sneakers, and jogger pants shocked fashion insiders at the men’s shows. Designers are departing from formal wear to casual luxury. Abercrombie and Fitch perfected the style through its Ezra Fitch collection that offered smoking jackets, motorcycle jackets, tailored trousers, and dress shirts. Even though casual luxury is a relaxed look, it isn’t exactly gym wear either.
Sub_Urban Riot is one of our new favorite casual luxury brands. Beyonce popularized their Kale sweatshirt in her music video for “7/11.” The collegiate-looking sweatshirt can be dressed up with tailored slacks and a relaxed blazer or dressed down with chinos and a denim jacket for an evening look on a chilly night.
Relaxed and Structured Trousers
Finding a pair of high-quality pants that fit and are stylish feels like flying first class to Dubai; at least we feel that way. Sub_Urban Riot’s Selvedge Trouser in rock grey should be in your closet right now for all of the above. They are tailored with slightly more room in the rise and tapered at the leg. These pants can be dressed up with a textured cardigan and button down shirt or dressed down with a relaxed jacket and basic tee.
A few years ago, men’s fashion bloggers predicted that the jogger and drop crotch trend would fade faster than wedge sneakers. The trend isn’t slowing down; in fact it is gaining greater popularity. Even high-end design houses like Yohji Yamamoto, Alexander McQueen, and Balmain are creating these pants for their men’s lines. Simplicity is best when piecing together this look, and we think black and white or all black make a dramatic statement here. You can pair Sub_Urban Riot’s drop crotch joggers with a black tank, a black tee, or a black sweatshirt. Whatever you chose to wear with joggers should have a starched look as if it just came from the dry cleaners.
Stan Smith Tennis Shoes
Sock-free days during the summer are like cucumber water, refreshing, and trendy. However, flip-flops are out, and Stan Smiths by Adidas are in this summer. The shoe was introduced to the world in 1971 and is now iconic. “Shortlist” magazine named the shoes the tenth greatest sneaker ever, but shortly after the honor was received, Adidas announced it would stop producing the shoe. From the outcry from the fashion and blogging communities, the shoe was relaunched. Stan Smith’s dominated the feet of fashion’s younger, influential men at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015.
Pairs to snatch now include: the Pharrell Williams Stan Smiths, the Stan Smith Vulc Shoes (in striped red and white), Adidas x Mastermind Japan Stan Smith (in black perforated leather), O-Ray Stan Smith, and Adidas Originals Stan Smith Woven as well as the water splashed design, the all-red design, and electric blue design.
